These cherries, growing on the tree next to my house, were incredibly sour. Little did I know (my mom bought her pies in the frozen food section at the grocery store) but they were pie cherries. With the help of a cook book, I started baking pies like it was manna from the gods. My friends and I ate pies for weeks we ate them for breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks, took them to parties and even tried to get the dog to eat them...she wouldn't.
