Boxing is a purely masculine world. (Though there are female boxers women´s role in the sport is extremely marginal.) The vocabularly of boxing is attuned to a quintessentially masculine sensibility in which the role of patriarch/protector can only be assured if there is physical strength – »primitive,« perhaps; then comes civilization.
