Probably coined from the French word »coiffure«, the quiff is a mildly ridiculous though harmless hairstyle.

The quiff is characterised by a pointy greasy lump of hair at the front. It may be accompanied by silly shoes.

The dwindling of their natural habitats (roller discos, Eddie Cochrane gigs, etc.) means that quiff wearers are now an endangered species. See also mullet.

The Quiff, also known as a Flat Top in Europe, is a combination of the 50s style pompadour, the 50s style flat top and sometimes a mohawk. It became a popular hairstyle in europe in the early 80s with early psychobilly acts, The Meteors, Demented are Go and others. For a while, DJ and TV presenter Mark Lamarr was a famous proponent of the quiff.
