In the first age, the Elves made war upon Morgoth for the recovery of the Silmarils, three gems in which by the craft of Feanor the light of the Two Trees, Laurelin and Telperion, was preserved, and it was all that remained of that light in Arda after the trees had perished.
Don't get elves and trolls mixed up. Elves are tiny people who live under mushrooms. Trolls are giants.
Elves are mostly what anyone chooses to believe or write about them.
If you want to read about some elves, pick up a book in the Forgotten Realms series.
