The record being the main production of the cultural industry and a space of artistic freedom for graphic designers (this is particularly true for independant labels), it seems relevant to highlight the artistic dimension of the sleeve-design. Each style of music comes along with a visual world related to it. Today, two main trends can be observed : on one side, direct references to the history of art, and on the other side, a tendency to recycle and/or to parody well known visual documents.
