State

Somewhere I read that Montana is known as The Treasure State. Heh? I have to say that, as we drove across the endless corn fields for hour after hour and were happy to see an odd coyote or distant farmer on a tractor to break the monotony, I thought the state's other name of Big Sky Country was far more appropriate.

'The State We're Still In' – Oh Lord, the title of a book that should be written now as trenchant criticism of the continuing mess that (you've guessed it)the longed for Labour govt.........

This was the state of matters, on the afternoon of, what I may be excused for calling, that eventful and important Friday. I can make no claim therefore to have known, at that time, how matters stood; or to have any remembrance, founded on the evidence of my own senses, of what follows.

North Dakota has several nicknames: the Sioux State, the Flickertail State, the Peace Garden State, and the Rough Rider State.

California, where the gold rush took place in 1849, is the Golden State.

Pennsylvania is known as the Keystone State.

Nevada is known as the Silver State, the Sagebrush State, and the Battle Born State.

Alabama is called the Yellowhammer State.

Colorado is called the Centennial State.

New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment.

South Dakota is called both the Mount Rushmore State and the Coyote State.
