The Britons had already pathfinders to cope with this problem but the real solution was the import of streets by the Romans. The local product was called strata, from strate, I mean, but no problem to call it street for the new English market, where it was so succesfull to be used in very new ways (i.e. Wall Street, Back Street Boys)
