Frank Leigh Dearie and his friend Vidalia walked down the Lost Highway. It was high noon.

Vidalia landed on the floor with a thump,
a bump, and a long, slow roll.

Onions, having no brakes, must trust themselves to inertia. And Vidalia trusted nothing and no one.

»Pronounce 'Leigh',« said Vidalia, »to rhyme with tea.« And with that, she rolled directly over Blossom's brand new red fedora.

The Assoziations-Blaster has just vouchsafed a little note: »Communication here is impossible

Laughter echoes in the alleyway behind Farringdon Road.

A man on the second floor of a flat above the alley peers out the window. Below, under the streetlight, stands another man in a white chinchilla coat and platform heels.

It's Frank Leigh Dearie, agog beyond the moon.

Someday, thinks Piccadilly as he stares at the figure under the streetlight, I will write a short story called, »The Most Unavailable Man in America

Because, damn it, he keeps showing up at my house.

You can't make me write about Leigh. I don't actually know anyone called Leigh. The name has no associations for me at all, nothing from life, nothing from fiction. But that was the pact. Take the first random keyword I get offered and write something about it, fill the tiny white box. How I wish that first word hadn't been Leigh. All I can think, now pushed, is that I'd say it to rhyme with Lea. I know someone called Lee. Does that count? It might be pronounce Lay or Lie of course. I could have invented someone called Leigh. Perhaps that would have been a better use of the time and space.
